One thing that has become really enjoyable about what Beth and I do, is that we meet some really great people. People that have been in the jewelry business for many years. Their stories of traveling around the world to visit designers and manufacturers are just great! One person we met this summer told us of visiting small manufacturers in Italy and Germany. Many of whom are no longer in business. They were often small family businesses and once the patriarch died, the business died with them. Really a shame, because the craftsmanship that came out of these little shops will never be seen again. We saw some of these great beads, settings, and cabochons. We just fell in love with the colors and shapes and quality. We knew we had to take the plunge and buy some because we weren't sure we would see such great vintage items again.

The person we talked to also talked of supplying many of the great costume jewelry designers of the last 30 years. It was so wild to listen about how demanding and detailed these designers were. How they would request certain colors and shapes. The process of filling these orders. Fascinating! One design house that this person supplied was the Les Bernard Company. One of the great costume jewelry makers of the last half century.

What we didn't know was that we purchased some of the components that he supplied to Les Bernard. After we returned home we were searching the web for information on Les Bernard and low and behold we see this picture... If you will notice the grid on the necklace, it matches the grid at the top of this post. Not only do we have that grid... we have many more shapes and sizes.

For Beth and I, this isn't a matter of name dropping. It's a matter of history. Beth has always loved old beads. I have always loved history. And when you get the chance to match vintage beads with interesting history... you have a great story!

Thank You!

Beth and I were talking the other day about how time has flown since we started Yummy Treasures. (February 2008) It's been a crazy trip. We have had a great time and we have had some wonderful interactions with lots of great customers.

Since we just passed 13,000 sales on Etsy, we felt this would be a good tome to say THANK YOU to all our customers. We appreciate you business and support and we look forward to helping you to continue to find lots of yummy treasures!

Summer Buying Trips

In my previous post I mentioned that we found some really great items over our Summer buying trips. The items from the 70's and 80's are of such great quality. The colors are dynamic. The styles are funky, retro, and yet classic. Most were made for very discerning customers. The problem for Beth and I is that an internet shop doesn't afford our customers the opportunity to see and touch these beads, pendants, settings, and cabochons. We KNOW that once people get these items in their hands, they will LOVE them!

Beth is the bead person in the family. She is the one who found these Yummy Treasures. But in all honesty, when I saw these items I was amazed.

For example, these channel set beads are gorgeous. They were made in Japan. They are plastic/lucite, but unless you are real close, you would swear they are glass. They just shine! So far, we only have the rectangles listed for sale on Etsy. But we also have square, round, and oval in these channel set beads.

Ahhh... just not enough hours in the day! -Greg

Welcome to Yummy Treasures

Hello and welcome to the Yummy Treasures Blog. We specialize in finding unique, quality vintage beads, cabochons, and findings. We are located on Etsy at www.yummytreasures.etsy.com. Yummy Treasures consist of two people. My wife (Beth) is the buyer and seller of all our vintage finds. And I am the guy (Greg) who gets to organize all the beads in the basement, and garage, and attic, and etc, etc, etc, and also ship out the orders to our great customers.

Our aim with this Blog is to let you know of whats happening at Yummy Treasures. We have just finished up on a couple great buying trips over the summer. We are really excited about what we found and can't wait to get the items up on Etsy. At our fan page on Facebook (Yummy Treasures) is a lot of great pictures of the items we found.

We were very fortunate to come upon a great stash of beads and cabochons from the 70's and 80's. The quality is excellent and the colors and textures are fabulous! Many of them are one of a kind and can't be found any where else. Guaranteed! We are really excited about the variety of cabochons we found. It will take awhile for Beth to list it all.
